December 22, 2009

Emily is working on a sewing project for Madison Claire.  When she was with Steve's family over the Thanksgiving holiday, they drew names to exchange Christmas presents, and Emily got Madison's name.  When the gift giving is over, we'll have to make a picture and post it so that everyone can see!

Emily is planning to have a nice Christmas Day celebration at her house.  Steve and Pat with Meredith and Patrick; Alan and Lynn with Mommy Anne, Liga, and Valdis; and Mia and Clyde will be there to help celebrate.  The tree is up, but still on the patio just awaiting the grandchildren to bring it in and get it decorated.  She has spent the day working on decluttering and tending to more of the business end of things, as well as some last minute shopping.

This morning Emily was especially touched by her devotional.  When Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide became the first people to reach the top of Mt. Everest, the guide did not know how to use the camera.  So the picture of the first person to stand atop Mt. Everest was taken by Hillary, and was of his Sherpa guide.  This metaphor was applied to the church at Corinth which was split into factions.  Paul reminded the congregation that in doing God's work it does not matter who gets the credit - just as Hillary had told the media that it was not important to talk about who topped Mt. Everest first, because it was the work of the two of them as a team that had made it possible.
