Lynda is the oldest daughter of Gene's youngest sister Mary.  She and her mother made several trips to Chattanooga to see Gene when he was at Erlanger and again when he was moved to Kindred.  "Uncle Gene" had a very special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews.  Here's an excerpt from an e-mail Lynda sent to Lynn.

I hope you and your family have a  MERRY CHRISTMAS. I know it will be very hard on everyone, but it sounds as if you all are starting off in the right way.  It is a wonderful thing to remember and share the great blessing you all have shared in the past.  You know Uncle Gene is still there in a part of each and everyone of you all.  When I look at Russ I can see him in his actions, the way he talks, and even how he walks.  In Steve I see the twinkle in his face and smile, and that laugh of Uncle Gene's.  And in you I see the dedication to your work and the way you care for others - the love you so freely give to your children, and a very strong bond for your family.  So I hope you all know how much I care and love you.
